Frequently Asked Questions
What are the age groups or divisions of play? Each player is automatically slotted into a division of play according to her birth date. Division birth dates are set up according to ASA rules and are based on the calendar year: January 1 to December 31.
For example, if a girl is 8 years old on January 1 and turns 9 later in the month, under ASA rules that player would be considered an 8 year-old player for the entire year, even though she is 9 for most of the year.
Note that using the calendar year for determining an age group is different from the way school is set up.
The WUSA divisions of play and the associated age ranges are shown below. The ages shown are based on the calendar year.

Notes:
Note 1: Most 1st graders slotted for the Pixie division play up in the Freshman division, but this is not required.
Note 2: Most 3rd graders slotted for the Freshman division play in the Intermediate Machine Pitch division, but this is not required.
Note 3: It is recommended that 9 year-old girls interested in summer tournament play at the Intermediate level play up in the Intermediate Girl Pitch division, although this is not required.
Minimum age to play in the WUSA league: at least 4 years old on January 1 of the current year.
Maximum age to play in the WUSA league: no older than 15 as of January 1 of the current year; however, the WUSA Board will carefully consider any special needs requests in the Junior division for older players.
