WUSA Lightning Safety
Policy

Bad weather conditions, especially those that contain lightning, pose a potential deadly problem for outdoor activities.  As such WUSA is mandating the following lightning policy. This policy is to be followed for all WUSA activities, including but not limited to practice sessions, scrimmages and games. This policy is to be enforced by WUSA officials, coaches and umpires without exception.

If lightning is observed and the interval between the lightning and the accompanying thunder is less than 30 seconds, all softball activity must be stopped immediately, fields must be cleared and all participants should be advised to find a safe place (such as a car or building) to wait.  Softball activity shall not resume for a minimum of 30 minutes following the initial suspension or the last lightning/thunder interval less than 30 seconds.

The use of NOAA alert receivers and lightning detectors, where available, is encouraged.
