Overall, my experiences in WUSA have taught me countless lessons and skills, like hard work, leadership, and determination, which have been vital to my success in high school. I will be forever grateful for everything WUSA has given me because I truly believe it shaped the woman I am today. ~Penelope Meehan
When it comes to high school and preparing for college, WUSA helped me by allowing me to dream big and make those dreams a reality. What I mean by that is I wanted to play division 1 softball and the support that WUSA, my family, and friends had allowed for me to turn my dreams into a reality. ~Georgia Polydoros
At South Campus no matter what team I was on, the Bears, the Wave, the Cobras, etc… I kept in mind that I was representing WUSA. WUSA was not just a softball league. It was a community that I genuinely enjoyed being a part of. Off the field I volunteered at clinics, worked in the concession stand, helped organize the storage closet, etc… I felt like a part of a supportive community that ensured I was learning what it meant to be a great leader and teammate. ~Sammy Johnson
Because of the loyal nature of the West U softball players, the South Campus complex was always surrounded by familiar faces. I was never worried about who would end up on my team for that season, or if I would have a nice coach. The comfort of learning softball alongside people I knew made the experience so enjoyable. Also being in the same vicinity as the older players made it so I always had something to strive for. ~Kate Sullo
WUSA provided an amazing place for me to grow as an athlete, but looking back, I see that it has helped me become a very strong character in my regular life. As I’ve been applying to schools and writing my essays, I always turn back to my starting days of softball, acknowledging that the person I am today has grown and expanded from the 10-year-old pitcher at weekly WUSA fall ball games into a varsity athlete and soon-to-be college student. ~Claire Shelley
Every team I was a part of felt like a family, with coaches who were extremely kind and always supported me in every decision I made. That is one of the most amazing things about WUSA. It was a place where I felt known and valued. Being on all of these different teams taught me how to collaborate with different types of people, and how to work within a team. I learned how to rely on other people to help reach our collective goals. Through teamwork, I discovered that good communication was essential for a well-running team. Without it, things will quickly fall apart. Through this, I learned how to be a leader and be encouraging and constructive. ~Sophie Donalson
Whether it’s athletic or life skills, WUSA shaped my life at a young age to the young woman I am today. I owe my work ethic on and off the field to WUSA. On the field, softball taught me responsibility and perseverance if I wanted to be the best player. Off the field, I learned how to be a good friend and lead by example. I will always cherish my time at WUSA ~Abby Woo
Walking up onto the South Campus complex for the first time - dressed in my bright neon jersey and knee-high socks - I instantly felt at home. It was on these fields where I truly learned what it means to be a part of a team. Although as young players we couldn’t quite yet throw a ball nearly sixty feet in front of us or hit past the infield dirt, I still enjoyed every win and loss, every “there was a little froggy sitting on a log” cheer, every annual opening day parade, and every post-game snow cone with my teammates. ~Meaghan Lande
WUSA has been one of the greatest gifts of my life, giving me my best friends, my greatest role model, and the life skills that have carried me through high school and will follow me to College Station next August. There is something about Field 5 at South Campus that will always feel like home, and it is because that dirt is the foundation on which I got to build my life. ~Sophia Deutschen
Though I may no longer play within WUSA, its impact will always resonate with me every time I step onto a field or face any challenge in my life. ~Kate Hale
